Peridance Capezio School
Peridance Capezio Center, located in New York City's Union Square at 126 East 13th Street, offers instruction to dancers of all ages. The school's curriculum of more than 250 weekly dance classes--to dancers of all skill and interest levels--prepares students for the fast-paced and constantly changing global dance profession.
History
Peridance Capezio Center was founded in 1983. Over the decades since the school first opened its doors, young and experienced dancers work with some of the world's most acclaimed instructors to perfect their dance art.
The school was renamed Peridance Capezio Center upon the decision to partner with Capezio/Ballet Makers, Inc. in 2007.
Capezio
The school's affiliation with Capezio is reflected by the Salvatore Capezio Theater. The theatre is available for rentals, performances, and showcases.
Igal Perry, Founder
Mr. Perry was born in Israel and was a member of the well-known Tel Aviv-located Bat-Dor Dance Company founded by Baroness Bethsabée de Rothschild (Batsheva) and dancer Jeannette Ordman.
He has worked in tandem with the world's most celebrated dance instructors and choreographers such as Lar Lubovitch, John Butler, Alvin Ailey, Inesse Alexandrov, and Paul Sanasardo. In the United States, he staged works for the New York City Opera, Teatro Alla Scala (Milan), the Opera of Munich, and the Caracas Ballet.
Major choreographic works for The Scapino Ballet, Het National Ballet (Netherlands), the National Ballet (Prague), Architanz (Tokyo), Laterna Magica, The National Ballet of China, and Royal Ballet of Sweden.
His works are included in the repertories of top dance companies, such as Batsheva, Bat-Dor (Israel), Alberta (Canada) Ballet, Companhia de Danca (Portugal) de Lisboa, and Alvin Ailey II in the U.S.
Mr. Perry is a guest master teacher at The Juilliard School (1995 to present). He is also the Artistic Director of the Kwang-Ju (Korea) International Ballet Competition. In May 2007, he was honored by induction to the Dance Library of Israel Hall of Fame.
School Goals
Both guest artists and established master teachers instruct dance students. Artists, teachers, and students work together to bring dance and performance art to the city, country, and global dance arena. The school's mission includes the provision of financial assistance to qualified students.
Summer Programs
Intensive summer programs help students bridge conservative/classical ballet to contemporary techniques.
The Teen Summer Intensive (ages 12 to 17) offers a completely supportive learning environment in which dancers take next steps into the world.
The BLUEPRINT session brings students (ages 16 to 22) together with knowledgeable and influential instructors at an important potential turning point.
